RRSPs

Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSP) are a savings plan registered with the Canadian government. Contributions reduce your taxable income and allocate your financial resources towards your retirement.

TFSAs

Tax-Free Savings Accounts (TFSA) are tax exempt investment accounts with yearly annual contribution limits. In a TFSA, investment returns (e.g., capital gains, interest, and dividends) are completely tax-free!

RESPs

Registered Education Savings Plans (RESP) are tax-sheltered plan that can help families save for their children’s post-secondary education. Contributions are tax-free until the funds are withdrawn to pay for an approved educational program.

RDSPs

Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) is a tax deferred plan designed by the government to support individuals who are approved to receive the disability tax credit to save for their long term financial needs.

FHSAs

First Home Savings Accounts (FHSA) are an effective tool for saving for your first home. In an FHSA, there are additional tax savings over an above a traditional RRSP. Contributions are tax deductible.

LIRA & IPP

Locked In Retirement Accounts are registered retirement accounts with various restrictions. Individual Pension Plans are specialized retirement investment accounts designed by an actuary.

Open/Non-Reg

Open or Non-Registered accounts are taxable holdings where returns such as interest, capital gains, and dividends are fully taxable.

Investment Options

We primarily work with Mutual Funds, ETF Mutual Fund Portfolios, and ETFs. While Mutual Funds and ETFs are the most common holdings, ETF Portfolios give similar diversification or indexing as an ETF while operating in the same environment as a mutual fund, and are typically more cost efficient.

Mutual Funds

Mutual Funds pool assets from many investors to purchase a diversified portfolio of securities (e.g., stocks, bonds, commodities, or alternatives) and are managed by expert portfolio managers.

ETFs

Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) are a type of investment fund that holds a basket of assets (e.g., stocks, bonds, or commodities) but trade on the stock exchange.
